Come and say hi!

Want to know more about working as an SEO Outreach Specialist, and what their typical day looks like? Ana spills the beans on all things SEO Outreach at Skale!

Let’s get to know her.

Meet an SEO Outreach Specialist!

Tell us a little bit about you!

Hey! I’m Ana, Senior SEO Outreach Specialist, coming to you all the way from Macedonia. Having worked remotely for almost two years in Skale, my job is enriching our clients’ backlink profiles while crafting new outreach strategies.

Great to meet you, Ana! Tell us about your onboarding process when you first joined the team?

As I was just entering the world of SEO when I joined Skale, the structure of the onboarding process was great to ease me in gently and set me up for success. I also learnt a bunch of tips and tricks that ultimately helped me scale my outreach efforts!

My first week was dedicated to learning the processes in the company, getting to know the team, and reading the articles in our internal knowledge hub prepared by the most experienced outreach professionals in the company.

During my second week, I started warming up my email, and slowly started to reach out to companies with the support of my manager.

What do you enjoy most about your role at Skale?

I love that I’m constantly learning! Working with SaaS clients across different industries means learning their product and the challenges they solve. By delving deeper into different niches, our team is able to deliver more successful outreach campaigns.

Have you experienced any main challenges?

I’ve definitely learnt not to take rejection personally. Not everyone will want to work with you, that’s normal and it shouldn’t bring your spirit down. By focusing on building long-term relationships, we can achieve more results.

Which is your favourite company perk?

Flexibility all the way! Being able to organize your day and take a longer break when you need it is amazing.

I love that you actually have time to cook and prepare a healthy lunch, instead of rushing around, spending money on junk food, and trying to eat it within a set timeframe!

Sometimes life happens, and you need to pop out to run an errand such as going to the bank, or to the dentist – instead of using vacation time, you can do what you need to do and plan your schedule around those appointments.

Last question! Working remotely, do you feel you’ve had good opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and learn from them?

Absolutely! I’ve worked together at some point with every single person in my department and everyone is happy to share ideas and techniques. People are always happy to help and jump on a quick call if needed, too! We can take it upon ourselves to arrange meetings when we want to discuss new approaches and create resources together for our knowledge hub. I really enjoy the working environment here, and find my colleagues very welcoming and helpful.

That’s all folks!

Thanks for taking the time to meet Ana. We hope you found this a great insight into what life is like here at Skale, as well as what it’s like to be an SEO Outreach Specialist!

We’ll let you in on a secret – we’re currently hiring an SEO Outreach Specialist to complement our existing team! If you think Skale may be the right fit for you, check out our careers page.

Until next time!

A day in the life of a Tech SEO Specialist! https://skale.so/magazine/a-day-in-the-life-of-a-tech-seo-specialist/ https://skale.so/magazine/a-day-in-the-life-of-a-tech-seo-specialist/#respond Thu, 21 Sep 2023 08:23:30 +0000 https://skale.so/?p=3493 Meet Oksana, Senior Technical SEO Specialist at SaaS SEO agency: Skale. Come and say hi!

Want to know more about working as a Tech SEO Specialist, what a typical day looks like, and how involved you can get with clients? Oksana spills the beans on all things Tech at Skale!

Let’s get to know her.

Meet a Tech SEO Specialist!

Tell us a little bit about you!

Hey! I’m Oksana, and I’m Ukrainian – now working remotely from Poland with my family! I’m a Senior Tech SEO Specialist, which suits me perfectly as I love tasks that demand focus and attention, down to the smallest detail.

Working at Skale, I also have the opportunity to engage with a diverse range of exciting clients and projects, ensuring that I am continually growing.

Lovely to meet you, Oksana! Tell us more about what your role involves…

A lot of variety! A typical day-to-day for me includes conducting technical audits, managing Looker Studio dashboards, performing internal linking audits, and seeking opportunities to enhance the internal linking strategy.

Collaborating with content managers to address keyword cannibalization issues is something I do regularly, and I dive into Google Search Console (which I can confidently say is one of my favorite tasks!) to pinpoint issues related to indexing, crawling budget, Core Web Vitals, and schema markup.

At Skale, we also offer fractional technical SEO support – a service tailored for clients with extensive websites to make sure everything is operating smoothly and efficiently. The core objective involves conducting regular site health audits using crawling tools (I prefer Screaming Frog) and Google Search Console.

Finally, one of the most fun yet challenging aspects of my work involves website migrations. Regardless of the type of migration planned – whether it’s a CMS switch, a redesign, or a domain migration – preparation is essential. We plan the smallest details of each phase, from the initial planning stage to testing on the staging environment, launching day, and post-migration monitoring, ensuring seamless coordination among technical, content, and development teams.

Wow, that sounds pretty exciting! How involved are you with clients?

Our Growth Strategist team leads most of the interactions with clients, but I do get a chance to join calls and explain complicated technical issues and solutions in layman’s terms.

As part of the client onboarding process, we have a kick-off call where they get to meet each individual working on their account! It’s a great opportunity to build client relationships and super helpful to ask any questions and learn more about each SaaS business.

What do you most enjoy about your role?

That’s a tough one! I would have to say error detection – delving into the crawl results, scanning subtle nuances within the Google Search Console, and uncovering patterns and discrepancies gives me a great sense of satisfaction!

I also love the challenges, freedom, and trust that Skale provides. Working with a diverse range of SaaS clients means continuously exposing me to new experiences and gaining knowledge.

Participating in strategic and planning activities is good fun, I love engaging in those! Working with an awesome bunch of people to help create genuine success stories is a highlight of my role.

How much collaboration is involved with the wider team?

I’m lucky enough to work closely with all the other departments within Skale regularly!

My workload is generated by the Growth Strategists, who delegate tasks based on client needs and deadlines.

As one of the go-to people for all things Tech, I get to work with colleagues who are also experts in their area of SEO. Whether we are devising strategies, analysing competitors, or managing content and links, I genuinely believe that collective expertise from each department is the key to our success. Working with like-minded colleagues who share the same values and perspectives on work processes and, life in general, is a great feeling!

That’s all folks!

Thanks for taking the time to meet Oksana. We hope you found this a great insight into what life is like here at Skale, as well as what it’s like to be a Tech SEO Specialist!

We’ll let you in on a secret – we’re currently hiring a Tech SEO Specialist to complement our existing team! If you think Skale may be the right fit for you, check out our careers page.

Until next time!

Come and say hi!

What is involved in Growth Strategy, and what does someone that works as a Growth Strategist at Skale actually do? We’re answering this, plus the lifestyle of the role within a remote agency, in this article.

Let’s get to know him.

Meet an SEO Growth Strategist!

Tell us a little bit about you!

Hello! I’m Gus, currently based in Cape Town, South Africa and luckily working remotely for Skale!

My role at Skale is SEO Growth Strategist, which gives me the opportunity to work with a set of talented team members but also some exciting brands across a multitude of industries. Working with the team and clients that I do, I am often challenged which allows me to grow and gain a wider set of experiences.

Great to meet you, Gus! Tell us what you enjoy most about your role at Skale?

What I love most about working at Skale is that my clients are spread across multiple industries which means no days are the same but more importantly, I get to sharpen my tools and gain experience by the unique challenges that each of my clients present.

Another aspect that I love in my role is the collaborative conversations I get to have with my clients. It means that I can become an extension of their company and we forge long lasting relationships with growth in mind.

Sounds good! How does Skale work differently from SEO agencies?

In my several years in the SEO space, I have worked at a host of different agencies and Skale definitely trumps them all by prioritising the client. As I previously mentioned, I love becoming an integral part of my clients marketing team and that´s how Skale really adds value.

Then, the team I am fortunate to work with – a team that is incredibly smart but, more importantly, always looking to help & collaborate to deliver the best possible results for our clients and ourselves.

Amazing! Final question: which is your favourite employee benefit Skale offers?

My favourite benefit is the investment in my growth as a team member. Being able to grow and build my knowledge has always been a goal and at Skale, that is a priority and amplified when working with the team that I do.

My other favourite benefit is the dedication to creating the company culture that we have. Working in a remote environment has its challenges but, the culture that has been built at Skale, has allowed us to forge a community and create a sense of belonging as though we are in the same room.

That’s all folks!

Thanks for taking the time to meet Gus. We hope you found this a great insight into what life is like here at Skale, as well as what it’s like to be an SEO Growth Strategist!

As you’ve probably learned, SEO agency life is very different from in-house. So, if you’re ready to take your SEO expertise to an agency, then maybe Skale is the right fit for you. Keep track of our careers page for updates.

Come and say hi!

What’s involved in a Junior Content SEO Specialist role at Skale, and how is the learning experience? We’re catching up with Sarah, who joined as Skale’s first ever Junior, and has since progressed within the Content team, to find out more about the role, and her favourite part of working for a remote agency!

Let’s get to know her.

Meet a Content SEO Specialist!

Hey, I’m Sarah, a Content SEO Specialist at Skale! That means I’m responsible for handling all things content for my clients -> all SaaS brands crushing it in their respective industries.

On a day-to-day basis, I create content ideas based on keyword research, enhance existing content, and brief new articles. It’s my job to stay on top of all my clients’ blogs and make sure content is doing what it does best: informing, entertaining, and showing people why these SaaS brands are the best at what they do.

Before Skale, I was a creative writing graduate with 1 year of SEO experience, focusing on content writing. If SEO was a driving test, I would have passed the theory and failed the practical exam! I knew the main concepts, but applying them to a real big-picture strategy was a challenge I’d never faced before.

Since joining Skale, I’ve grown from a Content Writer into a Content SEO Specialist. I’m part of a team of experts in content, tech, and SEO strategy, handling content for multiple SaaS brands every day. While my knowledge has come a long way, I’m constantly learning new things from the incredible team around me- and turning that knowledge into success for the brands that work with us.

Tell us about your onboarding process when you joined the team

I was Skale’s first-ever junior, working on a team of experts with years of experience and knowledge, and it was a little daunting at first! But there was never a need to worry, because the support at Skale is nothing short of phenomenal. Even before I joined the team, I was presented with a roadmap for my possible development, and an open statement from management: “We want to turn you into a world-class SEO, and we’ll help you to develop the necessary skills.”

Day 1 looked something like this: a short chat with our founders in the morning, being introduced to my mentor (who oversaw all of my training and development) and reading our onboarding materials. Skale has a lot of in-depth knowledge to share, and I had never worked in SaaS before, so there was a lot to absorb!

Over the next few weeks, Skale continued to support my development in several ways:

  • Creating a bespoke roadmap that allowed me to focus on learning a new topic every week. This was also malleable and easy to change, according to how my development actually progressed each week.
  • Weekly 1:1 meetings with my mentor for us to chat through how I was settling in, any issues I was having, or any questions I had about SaaS SEO in general.
  • Regular meetings with my manager, who seemed to know exactly what I needed to learn, and when (even when I didn’t!)
  • Throwing me in at the deep end – progression was full of challenges, and working with clients who are used to the amazing work that Skale delivers. I had to quickly rise to that responsibility, and it helped me to learn a lot about content SEO in a short space of time.

Working remotely, do you feel you’ve had good opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and learn from them?

Short answer: yes!

Skale excels at remote work- and especially remote connection. Weekly meetings with my mentor made sure that I was never stuck on a task for long, and in-between meetings the floor was always open for me to send her a message with any question at all. There were a lot of questions in those early days!

A few weeks into my role, I started working with other members of the team, and the advice my mentor gave me at the time was “This person is great, learn from them, and ask questions!”

So the more people I worked with, the more I was able to learn about how to use content to create real results for our clients.

My ideas were always seriously addressed in brainstorming sessions, and I adopted a philosophy that “there are no bad ideas- as long as I’m learning.” There was always someone on the team to help develop my early ideas into something great, or point me in a better direction, and I was right there to watch how they did it.

There is nothing better for career development than learning from an expert in action, apart from repeating that action to yourself on an excel doc right after the meeting!

What’s been the biggest learning curve in your role?

Skale’s team never shied away from a challenge. It’s part of what makes our team so great at what we do, and it leads to a lot of learning curves.

Even as a junior, nobody shied away from giving me the opportunity to develop new tasks and procedures. It was intimidating to create a new task from scratch as there was nobody to directly ‘learn from’. Creating new procedures forced me to develop skills that make for a solid content SEO:

  • Attention to detail – most of the new processes I developed were large tasks that took days to complete, and afterwards I would be the only person who knew how to do it, so remembering all the little details was very important for the whole team’s development.
  • Logical thinking – As a content writer, I wasn’t used to dealing with large amounts of data and turning it into actionable suggestions. I had a minor background in mathematics, but the main thing that helped was reaching out to other members of the team and understanding their thought processes around what I was doing.
  • Collaboration – I was always checking in with more experienced colleagues and taking their advice on-board. I must have asked a thousand questions, but I got a thousand-and-one answers, and that made all the difference!
  • Creativity and originality – being creative as an SEO is different to most other creative fields. There are best practices to follow, changes to Google’s algorithm to take into account, and client-specific factors you can’t ignore. At the same time, making creative, innovative, and useful content will do more to get you to the #1 spot than just copying what everyone else is doing.

Since I was creating these new processes first-hand, it also developed my confidence in myself. Within a few months at Skale I was taking on bigger tasks, responsibilities, and looking after my own clients.

Which is your favourite company perk at Skale?

Do I have to pick just one? Half of my favourite perks aren’t even the ones you’ll see on the job listing. I love being able to manage my own time and calendar, working with a team of people who are amazing at what they do, and being given the opportunity to develop at such a fast pace. My learning hasn’t stopped just because I’m no longer a junior, either! No two days at Skale are the same, and even the days that go at breakneck-speed are fascinating opportunities to grow.

Of the official perks, our subscription to Oliva’s mental health platform is great. I value the encouragement to take time out of my day to breathe, exercise, and spend time away from my work to find a little personal balance.

At Skale, you’re trusted to handle your own work-life balance and working hours, which means you can take the time you need to reset throughout the day as long as your work gets done. By integrating Oliva’s meditation and self-guided classes into my workday, I can work with a clearer head and great work-life balance.

Any advice you’d give to a new Junior Content SEO Specialist?

Ask questions! Don’t be afraid of sounding ‘less expert’ than everyone else. You’re a junior, there is no pressure or expectation that you’ll join us and start operating with a senior-level mindset. You’re here to learn as well as work.

The most important thing I told myself as a junior was this: it’s okay to make mistakes, but don’t make them twice. Make as many mistakes as you need to while you’re learning, because then you won’t make them again when you’re at a more senior level.

That’s all folks!

Thanks for taking the time to meet Sarah. We hope you found this a great insight into what life is like here at Skale, as well as what it’s like to be a Content SEO Specialist!

As you’ve probably learned, SEO agency life is very different from in-house. So, if you’re ready to take your SEO expertise to an agency, then maybe Skale is the right fit for you. Keep track of our careers page for updates.

What it’s like to be a Technical SEO Analyst at Skale https://skale.so/magazine/tech-seo-analyst/ https://skale.so/magazine/tech-seo-analyst/#respond Fri, 21 Jan 2022 22:28:13 +0000 https://skale.so/?p=1519

Meet Lazarina, technical SEO analyst at SaaS SEO agency: Skale. Come and say hi!

What is technical SEO, and what does someone that works in technical SEO actually do? We’re answering this, plus the lifestyle of the role within a full-remote agency, in this article.

Today, we’re sitting down with Lazarina. Lazarina has always worked in some area of SEO, whether that’s as a writer or an SEO specialist. In this article, she talks us through a little bit more about her and her experience working with Skale so far.

Meet a Tech SEO Analyst

Здравейте! I’m Lazarina, and I am a Tech SEO Analyst at Skale. I specialize in technical SEO, data analytics, and strategy. I am also a huge advocate for automation and embedding Machine Learning into processes, and improving the efficiency of how things are done in SEO.

Being passionate about these topics, I often develop resources and guides to help other SEOs enhance their work processes. I enjoy sharing insights with the world via public speaking, too. This includes tackling topics like:

Lovely to meet you, Lazarina. What does a typical workday look like for you?

A typical workday includes a bit of coding, website auditing, research, and concept testing. It also includes data-related fun like analysis, traffic drop investigations, or visualizations. Every day is different, and there is an opportunity to learn something new every day in a new area which is super fun.

That’s awesome. Do you feel encouraged to grow and succeed at Skale?

Skale is a company where we are really encouraged to do our best for clients. We work with amazing companies, which are really motivating to scale via organic growth.

There is definitely huge growth potential, cool projects, and opportunities here and I feel encouraged each day.

Power to you! Why do you love working at Skale?

I love working at Skale because of the freedom we get from choosing when and how to work. Plus, the team is made up of brilliant professionals. I love that we are scattered across the world but still come together to strategize, connect, or just cook some pasta from scratch at a team-building event!

It’s really fun also being a part of a fast-growing agency.

Nice. Tell us how you take advantage of remote and flexible work

I take advantage by choosing when to work, of course, mindful of colleagues, deadlines, and projects.

I’m typically more of a night owl, so I really enjoy getting my work done when it’s quiet, and the world sleeps. I love that most people here support and operate on the principles of asynchronous communication.

Great! Final question: which is your favorite employee benefit Skale offers?

Definitely working remotely. I would not have been able to join such a great team at the time that I did (amid the pandemic) if not for this.

До Скоро, Lazarina. Thanks for your time!

Thanks for taking the time to meet Lazarina. We hope you found this a great insight into what life is like here at Skale, as well as what it’s like to be a technical SEO analyst.

As you’ve probably learned, SEO agency life is very different from in-house. So, if you’re ready to take your SEO expertise to an agency, then maybe Skale is the right fit for you. We’re hiring, so be sure to check out our careers page for more.

What it’s like to be a SEO Growth Strategist at Skale https://skale.so/magazine/seo-growth-strategist/ https://skale.so/magazine/seo-growth-strategist/#respond Tue, 14 Dec 2021 13:20:37 +0000 https://skale.so/?p=1513 Understand what an SEO Growth Strategist does at an agency, the projects they work on, and their responsibilities.

SEO is at the top of many people’s wish lists when it comes to employability skill sets. However, if you’re new to the SEO world, a lot of the lingo can be daunting or even misguiding.

We thought we’d help unpick the mysteries behind what someone in SEO does with this series: Meet the Skalers. In this quick article, we caught up with Ryan Prior. Ryan was a former Marketing Lead, and is now a stellar SEO Growth Strategist here at Skale.

Ryan is a big lover of SEO, but he’s also a big lover of his freedom and free time, as you’ll see in this interview. Let’s get to know him!

Meet an SEO Growth Strategist

Hey, I’m Ryan, a SaaS SEO Growth Strategist at Skale! I was born and raised in Teesside, north-east England, and I currently live in a small village called Croft-on-Tees. I joined Skale in 2020, prior to which I was an in-house SaaS marketing generalist and also worked agency-side in SEO, paid search, and paid social. I know what you’re thinking, and yes, it was a lot!

A day in the life of an SEO Strategist

Nice to meet you, Ryan. So, what does a typical workday look like for you?

It’s a mix of quite a few things, which is what I like about it. As a Growth Strategist at Skale, some of the most common things I’ll be doing are:

  • Analyzing client SEO KPI performance
  • Working with clients to map out quarterly strategies—answering: how can we get the most KPI growth from our organic channel?
  • Building a business case & getting buy-in for SEO initiatives
  • Working with Skale’s content & tech SEO teams to execute strategies
  • Writing reports & updates to keep everyone in the loop & excited about progress

Every day is different, and it’s a good mix of technical and content-driven SEO.

Nice! Let’s chat about Skale. Do you feel encouraged to grow and succeed at Skale?

Yes, definitely. For example, in my quarterly performance reviews, my manager proactively asks how I’d like to develop & progress my career and helps to make sure I’m on the right track.

That’s great to hear. Why do you love working at Skale? 😉

A few reasons. Working at Skale has allowed me to work closely with some great SaaS brands and learn much faster than I did in-house.

I’m also able to work with different business models (product-led, sales-led) with clients who ‘get’ SEO and have the resources to make our ideas happen. I feel like I’m a better SaaS SEO professional than I was six months ago, and I expect to say the same again in another six months.

Sounds really interesting! Can you tell us your favorite employee benefit Skale offers?

I’d have to say the remote working culture and flexible working hours are a big plus. I’d never want to go back to a regular 9-5!

Tell us more! How do you take advantage of remote and flexible work?

Day-to-day, I simply like to start work earlier and either finish earlier or take a break during the day for the gym or a walk.

Other than that, though, it’s a huge benefit to be able to schedule something like a haircut or a dentist appointment midweek. Also, if I need to do the school run or some other errand during the workday, it’s not a problem.

Thanks Ryan, see you on Slack!

That’s a wrap on Ryan for now. Thanks for taking the time to meet him and understanding his role better. It certainly seems as though an SEO Growth Strategist in an agency has the potential to grow very fast while having the freedom to step back and enjoy the personal ride they’re on as well.

This is an ongoing series, so if you’d like to understand another SEO role or even any other role within Skale, then let us know. Lastly, if you think Skale makes sense as your next career step, don’t be afraid to get in touch! We’re always looking for new talent.

What’s it like to work as a Content SEO at Skale? https://skale.so/magazine/content-seo/ https://skale.so/magazine/content-seo/#respond Wed, 01 Dec 2021 19:32:08 +0000 https://skale.so/?p=1465 Meet Arianna, Content SEO at Skale — a fully-remote B2B SaaS SEO agency. Come in and say hello.

We often get asked what it’s like working at Skale during our interviews. There’s also a huge demand to better understand what on earth SEO people do. So, we’re setting about answering both of these questions with a series we’re calling: meet the Skalers -> look at that, not an SEO keyword in sight!

Grab a cup of coffee, and come and meet Arianna with us, Content SEO specialist, travel-lover, and by far our most organized team member!

A week in the life of a Content SEO at Skale

Hola, I’m Arianna, and I’m an SEO Specialist here at Skale. I was born and raised in Venezuela, and I’m currently living in Miami, Florida. I’ve been working at Skale for almost two years. I initially started working as a Link Building Specialist, and have since progressed into a Content SEO Specialist.

Amazing. Arianna, what are your role responsibilities?

My main responsibilities are to help build content strategies for multiple clients, execute and recommend content best practices for users and search engines, and audit content to find opportunities for improvement.

Cool, and what does a typical work day look like for you?

My typical workday starts at 9am, just after going to the gym and having breakfast.

The first thing I do is plan my day and go through my to-do lists and tasks. During the first 1-2 hours of my day I catch up on Slack messages and emails, and there’s usually a client meeting or team meeting where we discuss client progress, SaaS SEO KPIs, deliverables, and projects for the week.

After catching up and going through client calls, I take a 20-minute break to grab some tea (I can’t start my day without tea!)

Around 11 am, I get started on my tasks for the day.  Not every day looks the same as a Content SEO at Skale. Some days I get to do keyword research to find new opportunities for clients, other days I’ll brief clients with SEO guidelines, and on others, I get to give SEO recommendations on clients’ existing content.

My favorite part is when I get to analyze a ranking drop or an underperforming page, as I love the challenge!

What are the common misconceptions of an SEO?

I guess the main misconception is that to work within SEO you need a technical background, or need to be a developer. There’s space for everyone in SEO, you can be a super creative person and still contribute enormously to a website’s growth.

So true! Arianna, what do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy the process of learning about a new industry and business model every single day. One day I can become an expert in interior design software, the other I’m all about speech recognition or cyber security. The best part is that I get to learn all this while doing what I’m most passionate about, which is SEO.

Tell us, why do you love working at Skale? 🙈

One thing I like about Skale is how organized everything is. We are big on getting everything into a system and there’s a place and time for most ideas, tasks, procedures.

My favorite work perk is definitely remote working and flexibility—since I joined Skale, I feel more in control of my life and schedule than ever before. I get to deliver amazing results, learn and achieve awesome things in my career, and work in a performance-orientated environment.

You’re a keen traveler, right? How do you take advantage of remote and flexible work?

Ha! I wouldn’t even know where to begin, I’m good with bullets, let’s try that:

– I get to be at home (which I enjoy a lot) and save time on commuting

– I have time, and feel encouraged, to work on personal projects outside of my job

– I have the flexibility to take control of my day and plan my job around my life—not the other way around

– I get to meet amazing people from all over the world, at this point, I can say I have a friend in almost every big city in Europe

– I can travel anywhere, anytime, as long as I take my laptop with me. I spent a week last summer in Las Vegas, worked during the day, and had the evenings to go out and sightsee. I can also visit my parents who live in Panamá and spend quality time with them.

Which is your favorite employee benefit Skale offers?

My favorite employee benefit at Skale is the learning resources they offer and the learning encouragement culture there is. I have access to expert courses and workshops, and I have allocated time during work every week to get updated on industry changes, improve my skill set, and become better at SEO.

Another employee benefit I love is the monthly wellbeing budget, it gives me the opportunity to allocate it to only my well-being. I use it to buy my favorite healthy snacks and supplements (they can be pricey!) and I get a monthly massage and facial.

Last question for you: do you feel encouraged to grow and succeed at Skale?

Definitely! For me, as I’m very early in my career, I feel like being at Skale has given me the opportunity to grow 5x faster than if I had taken another career path.

There’s a big growth culture in the agency and in every single person we work with. More importantly, there’s space for me to communicate where, and how, I want to grow as an SEO and a marketer.

Gracias and Adios, Arianna!

How Skale is different https://skale.so/magazine/how-different/ https://skale.so/magazine/how-different/#respond Sun, 04 Oct 2020 18:45:00 +0000 http://outreachhumans.flywheelstaging.com/?p=292 1. We prioritize driving business KPIs

Increasing rankings and traffic is important, but we care a lot more about driving real business KPIs such as SQLs, qualified signups and new MRR. Most SEO agencies simply don’t get this – they are too worked up about rankings and traffic.

At Skale, we don’t get excited by ranking increases or traffic gains, although good leading indicators of success, if there isn’t any business impact.

No increase in SQLs/qualified signups from SEO = no party.

2. We have in-house SaaS experience

Our team has real SaaS experience, since 2015, as Growth leaders at some of the world’s fastest growing SaaS companies.

If you want to scale your SaaS SEO channel, you need to work with a SaaS SEO agency that has actually driven growth at SaaS brands before. We understand SaaS Marketing metrics, SaaS-specific SEO strategies, and SaaS marketing & product growth strategies.

For example we helped drive SEO growth at Typeform from 0 -> 30,000+ new monthly product signups from non-branded SEO. As a result, they are driving 700+ new subscriptions every month from SEO.

3. You don’t just get a links spreadsheet at the end of the month

Most SEO agencies will simply send you a spreadsheet with the links they achieved at the end of each month. Then it’s up to you to determine if your investment was worth it or not and what the business impact was.

At Skale, we create an in-depth monthly report, not just listing the SaaS related backlinks we achieved, but also looking at the MoM impact on rankings, traffic, and leads/signups to the pages we have been focusing on. We then analyze and propose where to build links in the upcoming month to have the biggest impact on your SEO KPIs.

4. We model SEO

Most SEO or SaaS link building agencies give you a spreadsheet with keywords and search volumes. Pretty useless if you can’t anticipate how you’ll drive actual business impact.

We work with you to build an SEO model in order to understand:

  • What the real potential is for leads/signups and thus new MRR
  • How to prioritize link building each month for maximum impact on results (effort vs. reward)
  • What the 12-month ROI is from our monthly SEO investment.

The model includes page-level data on traffic potential, funnel metrics (e.g. visit->signup CVR %) based on intent or awareness stage, number of links to build for top rankings, monthly sign up potential per page, etc.

5. We care about topical relevance

Topical authority is what really matters in SEO. You need both high domain topical authority and high page topical authority. This is the recipe for SEO success.

So when we select which websites to partner up with, we check what keywords they are ranking for. We don’t work with sites that are ranking for keywords related to topics such as gambling, torrents, porn, gaming, etc.

We combine utilising the relationships we have already built with running bespoke outreach campaigns to find websites within the right niches that will move the needle on your SEO results. We also ensure they are good enough to future-proof your search positions.

Lower quality non-topical relevant links could work now, but you run the risk of them becoming irrelevant with every Google algorithm update. Simply don’t leave it to chance.

6. Get results within 3 months, not 18

A lot of SEO agencies make you sign lengthy contracts, with penalties if you want to drop out, and keep telling you that SEO is a long-term game which takes 1 year+ to see results. If they don’t get results, they use the lagging nature of SEO as an excuse to keep billing.

It’s proven from studies that actually the average time to see SEO impact is 3-months. You can also look in Ahrefs and see how long it took your competition to rank.

But what do we mean by “results”, here? It can meaning increasing signups or simply seeing big ranking leaps, depending on a number of factors such as keyword difficulty and your current topical page and domain authority.

With our monthly reports, we will detail the impact that we have had on your SEO channel. Every month you’ll see positive progress.

7. We balance short, mid and long term wins

In SaaS we always need to balance short-term results but at the same time be building our channels for long-term growth.

The board is pressuring us to hit our MRR targets each month, but we know that SEO is a channel which compounds over time. As a result, we can fall into the “growth hacking” trap of only focusing on short-term wins and we never end up truly growing our channel into its full potential.

This is because the high intent keywords which will bring in 80% of the MRR are the most difficult which will take months to rank in top positions. And the other 20% are quicker wins that we can impact a lot faster. If we only work on these quick wins, then we are only reaching 20% of the potential of our SEO channel.

At Skale, each month we will work together in order to ensure we aren’t just trying to impact the short-term wins, but also keep chipping away at the longer-term rocks.

8. We give back to the world

We believe in giving back to the world, and that businesses should be vehicles for massive change. This means for every Skaler in our team we plant trees, compensate CO2 emissions, support rainforest protection organizations, and do other projects such as clean energy investments. You can learn more about this initiative here.
